Maria Siemek is a MA student of sociology at the University of Warsaw. During her bachelor’s studies in liberal arts and sociology she focused on the issue of material and living conditions of students, conducting and co-conducting several studies in this field. As a SCRG member she works in the Origins and development of the peripheral academic capitalism in Poland (1990-2021) project and has contributed to the The Consequences of the ‘Shock Therapy’ for Science and Higher Education project. Currently she examines the history and dispossession of students’ culture and clubs, as well as the academic protests during the polish capitalist transistion of the 1990s.
Research interests: higher education, student movements, academic protests and trade unions.
