The Scholarly Communication Research Group AMU is a dynamic place for advanced research in the fields of scientometrics, evaluation research and higher education research. Requirements and qualifications

The call is open to individuals who meet the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Act of July 20, 2018, Law on Higher Education and Science (Dz.U. z 2023 r. poz. 742 t.j.), and who also meet the following requirements:

  1. A PhD in the humanities or social sciences (preferably sociology or history) obtained in the year of employment on the project or within the last 7 years prior to January 1 of the year of employment.
  2. Significant interest in research on science and higher education, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe.
  3. Up-to-date knowledge of the latest research in the field of science studies.
  4. Experience in analyzing texts related to Russia or the Soviet Union.
  5. Experience in conducting qualitative research on texts, including the use of qualitative analysis software (e.g., MaxQDA).
  6. Documented expertise in the aforementioned qualifications (preferably scientific publications that can confirm this – alternatively, a defended and unpublished doctoral thesis).
  7. Excellent command of the Russian language.
  8. Proficiency in Polish or English.
  9. Excellent management and organizational skills (both personal and team).
  10. Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary research team.

Warunki zatrudnienia

  • Full time, 2 years (24 months).
  • Anticipated job starting date:1st of January 2025 r.
  • Monthly salary: approx. 8.980,00 PLN before taxation

Job offer description

The post-doc position in the research project Investigating the Relationship between Science Diplomacy and Global DGT: The Role of Inclusive Metascience Observatories will involve the following tasks: a) conducting reviews of Russian-language literature; b) creating and analyzing a corpus of Russian-language publications related to scientometric institutions and science studies centers (XX century); c) coding the analyzed texts using qualitative data analysis software (e.g. MaxQDA); d) performing critical discourse analysis of selected materials; e) participating in comparative analyses of collected data and developing partial research results; f) contributing to the preparation of scientific articles; g) presenting findings at national and international conferences; h) providing supervision and mentorship to students.

Eligibility criteria

STAGE I

In the first stage, based on the submitted documents, the committee will assess the candidate’s fulfillment of the following criteria:

  • Criterion I: PhD in the humanities or social sciences (preferably sociology or history) (0-10 points). 
  • Criterion II: Interest in research on higher education and science, confirmed by publications in journals and conference presentations (0-10 points). 
  • Criterion III: Experience in applying qualitative methods in data analysis (0-10 points). 
  • Criterion IV: Proficiency in qualitative data analysis tools (0-10 points). 
  • Criterion V: Knowledge of qualitative data coding confirmed by publications or a PhD (0-5 points). 
  • Criterion VI: Proficiency in Russian and Polish (or English) (0-5 points). 

The result of the first stage will be based on the total score obtained for meeting the individual criteria.

STAGE II

In the second stage, interviews will be conducted with up to three candidates who scored the highest in the first stage. The interviews will assess the competencies necessary for the project’s tasks based on the following criteria:

  • Criterion II: Interest in research on higher education and science, confirmed by publications in journals and conference presentations (0-10 points). 
  • Criterion V: Knowledge of qualitative data coding confirmed by publications or a PhD (0-5 points). 
  • Criterion VI: Proficiency in Russian and Polish (or English) (0-5 points). 
  • Criterion VII: Ability to collaborate with other team members (0-10 points). 

The selection committee reserves the right to declare the competition void and not select a candidate if it determines that none of the candidates meet the substantive or qualification requirements for the position.

Selection process

  1. The commencement of the selection committee’s work no later than 14 days after the deadline for document submission.
  2. Formal evaluation of the submitted applications.
  3. In case of missing required documents, a request for completing the documentation or providing additional documents.
  4. Selection of candidates for the interview stage.
  5. Interviews with candidates meeting the formal requirements.
  6. The committee reserves the right to request external reviews of the candidates’ achievements or to ask candidates to present a brief research presentation.
  7. Announcement of the results by the chairperson of the selection committee and notification of the candidates about the decision.
