Konrad Rachut, PhD is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of East Slavic Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He also is the secretary of the academic journal Studia Rossica Posnaniensia.
Rachut’s scientific interests revolve around the cognitive aspects of literary translation between Polish, Russian and English, with a particular focus on the translation of proper names. He also examines the decision-making processes involved in written, oral, and audiovisual translation, exploring the impact of translator dilemmas and choices on the final product. Additionally, Rachut’s research delves into the role of nonverbal communication in both interpreting and monolingual communication settings.
He is the author of the post-doctoral monograph “Podmioty aktywności dyskursywnej wobec tworzenia i tłumaczenia onimów literackich. Analiza konceptualna polskiego i rosyjskiego przekładu sagi o Harrym Potterze” (Poznań: Wydawnictwo Rys, 2020). In this book, Rachut elaborates upon the psychological perception of literary characters, objects, and places as mentally manifested through proper names, addressing a previously overlooked area in scholarly discourse. Building upon such a foundation, he examines the notion within a trilingual communicative context, emphasizing the crucial impact of translators’ imaginative and creative linguistic abilities upon preserving the inherent link between proper names, proprial concepts and the literary text itself.
Rachut’s work has been published in academic journals such as “Acta Neophilologica”, “Academic Journal of Modern Philology”, “Annales Neophilologiarum”, “Heteroglossia: Studia kulturoznawczo-filologiczne” and “Studia Rossica Posnaniensia”.
